This video guide will cover the following: - Removal of the door panel - Removal of the OEM Speakers - Repair procedure for the door panel - Installation of BSW Midrange/Tweeter Upgrade - Installation of the door panel This guide will only apply to e36 3 series built on or after 09/94.

Do these midranges include new grilles?

No, they do not. These midranges are the actual speakers only and do not include replacement grilles. We do not include replacement grilles in order to maintain a 100% stock appearance in your BMW. If your original grilles are cracked, because BMW offers the original grilles only with new speakers pre-installed, we recommend your local junkyard for replacements (you may also wish to contact Bavarian Auto Recycling at www.bmrparts.com).

Will these midranges work with my Harman Kardon or Premium Sound (DSP) equipped BMW?

Yes, absolutely! For all applications that are listed, we offer the appropriate midrange replacements, whether you have the base audio system or premium!

Author: JKim, 99 M3 Well, i just got these installed today. Taking my time with the install, I started after lunch (12:30) and finished around 2:00. Why did i install these? Choose these speakers? I wanted the stock look with better sound quality. Im not any audiophile, nor guru and all i cared about was a clear tone of music to and from work. The HK midranges were completely useless, because they emitted static and any appreciable volume preventing me from enjoying the likes of BBking, Dave matthews and Clapton. So I figured these were a perfect remedy for that horrible mistake that BMW made using some crappy paper midranges that only last 4 years or 50k miles. 7 years took its toll on these speakers, and when i inspected them..they were completely useless. Install: The instructions that came with the midrange speakers were very concise and descriptive, including pictures. They left out a couple of steps but nothing huge that would blotch or ruin the install. I did not use any door panal removal tools, which probably would have made things a little easier, but not worth the extra 20 bucks that they were selling for on BSWs site. The front door panal was removed pretty easily with a metal ruler that i had. I was careful not to break any of the plastic cone shaped clips that attached the front door panal to the door frame. THe sound of these coming off the frame was frightning indeed literally it sounded like the snapping of hard plastic. THe only snag i had with the install was removing the oem midranges from their housing. A very delicate process, almost surgery because of how brittle the housing became after 7 years. But it shouldnt be a problem if you take your time and remember to becareful. I used hot glue as the instructions said, but sparingly. A good note would be to remember which housing goes with which door panal. I almost made the mistake of putting the passenger housing on the driverside and vice versa. Luckily i looked at my panals first before putting them back on the car. This whole mixup could easily be dismissed if you did on side at a time. So i recommend doing the one side at a time completely before starting on the other. The re-install was easier than the removal. Everything was straightforward just like the removal process. Review: This is going to be very hard for me to review and rate, because of 3 things. 1) i have never heard of the stock HK midranges when they were new and in good shape. 2) i have never heard of any other BMWs sound system for that matter to make a comparasion. and 3) my stock midranges were in so bad shape (read: ripped/torn) that any working upgrade would have made an improvement, not just BSWs. But what i can say is that it improved my sound quality 10x. The voices, instruments etc of the music is static free and very clear. I now have the ablity to turn the music up enough to hear with the windows down and wind blowing...without the sound of ripping velcro at every note. All in All, i recommend BSWs midranges to those of you who are just looking to update your HK oem sound. They certinatly fit the bill as a cheaper alternative to oem replacements.

Author: Megan The processing and shipment of the speakers were very fast. The speakers were easy to install once the door panel was removed, but one of the wires was a little loose and had to be fixed with pliers. Once installed, the problems I had before with buzzing sound were gone and I can now enjoy crisp clear music and radio. This pair of speakers was a great solution for my buzzing and crackling sound issues! I posted this review online, but once I pressed add review I kept getting a blank screen. Author: Ed Hansen I recently upgraded my 1995 325IS to a 1999 M3. The car seemed great when I picked it up. I was excited about having the Harmon Kardan stereo system and brought some CDs to load the trunk mounted player. As I began the drive home it sounded great, then I realized only the rear speakers were working. I used the fader to bring up the front speakers and they were horribly distorted and buzzing. I was afraid the amp or the head unit were shot. I went to bimmerforums.com and made a posting asking if anyone had experienced this problem. One of the posts was from Jason from bavsound. He stated tht this was usually due to the surround on the midrange becoming detached. I ordered them that afternoon, along with tweeters and door removal tools. They shipped that night and came in 2 days. The install took around 25 minutes per door. Its never fun taking off a door panel but the instructions made it painless. The door removal tools are also highly reccomended. You shoul also have a hotglue gun. Its a great thing to have around the house anyway. The final result was FANTASTIC. I do not know how this system sounded new but it sounds great now, and thos midrange speakers were dried out and the foam surround was totally detached. Thanks to Jason and all the great employees at Bavsound. My new old M3 is a treasure.

Author: Adam I just installed these speakers... i am very impressed by them. sound quality is great, i havnt encountered any distortion either. the instructions werent very helpful and suggested that i cut through the speaker housings to get the old speakers out, that is unnecessary. replacing this set of speakers was truly plug and play... i had the onld ones out and the new ones in in approximately 10 minutes.

Author: Michael Smith Installation took about an hour and a half for both doors. It was simple and straightforward. The videos really helped me more than the written instructions. It seems the written instructions might want to include more photos. I also repared the top part of both door panels as shown in the videos, which added to the total job completion time. The door panel tools worked great and really assisted in removing the door panels without damaging them. The only issue I had was the replacement BSW mids were about a 1/4 deeper than the original speakers which didn allow the mid range assembly cover on the backside of the assembly to snap back closed. This was not a major issue as it is held in by friction and also the rest of the door assembly once installed on the door. The speakers sound great, I wish I had done the swap months ago. If I wasn about to get a new BMW I would probably upgrade the tweeters too. Highly recommended purchase.

Author: Oliver I bought these to replace my stock aging midranges. If you want clear, smooth sounding vocals, these midranges do that job perfectly. They are not harsh, but are outright clear. It really is a plug and play alternative as well! These speakers for sure will last longer than the stock speakers that came with my car!
