Bluetooth is a technology developed to allow electronic devices to communicate wirelessly with each other. Many cell phones (in fact, most new cell phones) are equipped with this technology, allowing them to "talk" with other wireless devices such as an earpiece, or in many cases, a vehicle's radio.

Using Original BMW parts, BSW has assembled a BMW Bluetooth system for your vehicle that provides you the ability to use your cell phone while it remains in your pocket (no physical connection to your vehicle is required), meaning you get safe, hands-free operation while you drive. BMW also integrated a few other features into the system so that you also have voice control of your cell phone and navigation system.

Here are the features built into each BSW Bluetooth Kit for your BMW:

• Use your cell phone while it's in your pocket: Bluetooth is a totally wireless technology, so you don't need to connect your phone to anything to make a call. Just leave it in your pocket, and the moment you get in your car, you're able to talk with anyone completely hands free!
  
  
• Control your cell phone with your steering wheel and radio controls: browse your phone book, dial, adjust volume, and more -- all from your original radio and steering wheel controls.
  
  
• Control your cell phone and navigation system with voice commands. Not every phone or navigation functionality is supported with this feature, but it still affords a great deal of flexibility and true hands-free operation of your cell phone.
  
  
• Displays key information on your BMW's displays, such as the phonebook (even on your instrument cluster), call details, and recent numbers dialed. Please note that this does require specific Bluetooth profiles, some of which are not supported by some older Bluetooth equipped phones -- but most newer Bluetooth equipped phones will work without issue.
  
  
• Mutes your music automatically, so there are no more missed calls. When a call comes in or goes out, your music is muted instantly and automatically.

• If your vehicle is equipped with BMW Assist, this system must be removed for our Bluetooth system to be installed.
  
• If you have non-U.S. specification vehicle, the BSW Bluetooth system is compatible with your BMW only if your car had a factory installed BMW phone system OR Option 640 (telephone prewiring). To determine if your vehicle is equipped with Option 640, you can provide your local BMW dealership with your VIN, and they can tell you if your car is equipped with this option.

The BSW BMW Bluetooth Retrofit Kit is compatible with the following vehicles:

• 5 Series and M5 Sedans built on or after 03/02 through model year 2003
• 5 Series Wagons built on or after 09/02 through model year 2003
