Do these midranges include new grilles?

No, they do not. These midranges are the actual speakers only and do not include replacement grilles. We do not include replacement grilles in order to maintain a 100% stock appearance in your BMW. If your original grilles are cracked, because BMW offers the original grilles only with new speakers pre-installed, we recommend your local junkyard for replacements (you may also wish to contact Bavarian Auto Recycling at www.bmrparts.com).

Will these midranges work with my Harman Kardon or Premium Sound (DSP) equipped BMW?

Author: JKim, 99 M3 Well, i just got these installed today. Taking my time with the install, I started after lunch (12:30) and finished around 2:00. Why did i install these? Choose these speakers? I wanted the stock look with better sound quality. Im not any audiophile, nor guru and all i cared about was a clear tone of music to and from work. The HK midranges were completely useless, because they emitted static and any appreciable volume preventing me from enjoying the likes of BBking, Dave matthews and Clapton. So I figured these were a perfect remedy for that horrible mistake that BMW made using some crappy paper midranges that only last 4 years or 50k miles. 7 years took its toll on these speakers, and when i inspected them..they were completely useless. Install: The instructions that came with the midrange speakers were very concise and descriptive, including pictures. They left out a couple of steps but nothing huge that would blotch or ruin the install. I did not use any door panal removal tools, which probably would have made things a little easier, but not worth the extra 20 bucks that they were selling for on BSWs site. The front door panal was removed pretty easily with a metal ruler that i had. I was careful not to break any of the plastic cone shaped clips that attached the front door panal to the door frame. THe sound of these coming off the frame was frightning indeed literally it sounded like the snapping of hard plastic. THe only snag i had with the install was removing the oem midranges from their housing. A very delicate process, almost surgery because of how brittle the housing became after 7 years. But it shouldnt be a problem if you take your time and remember to becareful. I used hot glue as the instructions said, but sparingly. A good note would be to remember which housing goes with which door panal. I almost made the mistake of putting the passenger housing on the driverside and vice versa. Luckily i looked at my panals first before putting them back on the car. This whole mixup could easily be dismissed if you did on side at a time. So i recommend doing the one side at a time completely before starting on the other. The re-install was easier than the removal. Everything was straightforward just like the removal process. Review: This is going to be very hard for me to review and rate, because of 3 things. 1) i have never heard of the stock HK midranges when they were new and in good shape. 2) i have never heard of any other BMWs sound system for that matter to make a comparasion. and 3) my stock midranges were in so bad shape (read: ripped/torn) that any working upgrade would have made an improvement, not just BSWs. But what i can say is that it improved my sound quality 10x. The voices, instruments etc of the music is static free and very clear. I now have the ablity to turn the music up enough to hear with the windows down and wind blowing...without the sound of ripping velcro at every note. All in All, i recommend BSWs midranges to those of you who are just looking to update your HK oem sound. They certinatly fit the bill as a cheaper alternative to oem replacements.
