Author: Branden Lee Carroll Just installed that Stage I audio upgrade for my 2006 BMW Z4. Let me first say Wow, for stock power the speakers changed from night to day. I used some Skrillex to determine the change before and after. I looked at the factory speakers vs. the BSWs, they looked better but I was skeptic if they would really perform better. The highs sound so crisp and the mids from the panel sound amazing. Even with the volume up they do not distort. Great value in my book, I will be spreading it in the Z4 forums.
Author: John T. The Stage One speaker package for the Z4 is a definite upgrade and good value for the price. I used to do SQ competition sound systems back in the 80s, and have been an audiophile for many years. I am also an accomplished guitarist, and would like to think I have a pretty good ear. The stage one kit is more detailed and cleaner than the OEM speakers, with a higher distortion threshold plays much louder before distorting than the OEMs. The silk domes of the stage one kit really sound nice. They are extended and smooth. The upper registers are much less strident than the OEM tweeters. The bass is also improved. The mids in the factory system are crossed over at 100hz, which covers the fundamental frequency of the higher notes on a bass guitar, as well as most all of the harmonics of a bass guitar. With the improved stage one mids, I heard more bass detail and less one note boom, that I was attributing to the Carver subs. The Carver subs now are rounding out the very bottom end more like what they were intended to do. Of course the mids themselves are also detailed and natural sounding, with just the right amount of warmth. I would definitely recommend this upgrade to any Z4 owner who wants to improve his system and keep the stock headunit and Navigation intact. BSW is also coming out in the future with a replacement for the front soundstage kick panel woofers. Ill definitely be in for that as well!
